Setting Up Dialup Networking on Windows 95/98/ME
These instructions assume Dialup Networking 1.3 has been installed in
your computer. If this is not the case, you won't have a Dial-Up
Networking Folder in step 2. You will need to install Dial-Up Networking
from your Windows installation CD or from the Microsoft web site.
-
Double-click the My Computer icon.
-
Double-click the Dial-Up Networking folder.
-
Double-click the Make New Connection icon.
-
Delete the contents of the Type a name for the computer you are dialing field, and type a name for the connection (i.e.
JTAN LineX).
-
Click the Next button.
-
In the Area code field, type the area code for your access number.
-
In the Telephone number field, type your access number. An access number can be found on our Access Number Search page.
Note: Remember to check with your local telephone company to make sure that the number you choose is a local toll-free call.
-
Click the Next button.
-
Click the Finish button.
-
Click the JTAN LineX icon.
Note: (or whatever you named the icon earlier)
-
From the File menu, choose Properties.
-
Click on the Server Types tab.
-
Uncheck all the boxes except for Enable software compression and TCP/IP.
-
Click the OK button.
-
Click the JTAN LineX icon.
Note: (or whatever you named it earlier)
-
From the File menu, choose Create Shortcut.
-
Click the Yes button.
Congratulations! You have successfully configured Dial-Up Networking! In order to connect, you would now double-click the
JTAN LineX shortcut you created on your desktop.
